The Flowers in Your Veins was created after the loss of my mother and is part of a body of work that contains a multitude of vivid emotions and feelings that found a way through these surreal, colourful and eery portraits, expressing loss, hurt, relief and an unexpected sense of something a new. Parallel to feelings of emotional disability that is presented by the loss of limbs in these images, there was also the awareness and feeling of something new arising out of a very final death. A ruthless reminder of nature's circle of life, an ending and then the resilient start of a new beginning, growing persistently, waiting for no one, even if it has to stay dormant and wait for the perfect conditions. Being vulnerable during this time, like the fabric in each image, I felt transparent (which became the name of the series), weightless, being pushed and moved about by the slightest breeze. This is a silent, deep and profound experience that doesn't need words but are feelings and emotions that connect us all on an invisible level. Transparent was created to express a lack of words for many overwhelming and conflicting emotions from sadness to joy, heartbreak to relief and a new start to an end.
