I spent several days and nights exploring the beauty of St John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church and its grounds. The connection with our history as a nation and those who came before us is palpable in this Holy spot. There is no way an artist can do it justice but all would feel the deep desire to try and preserve the look and feel of this magnificent Church and surrounds for future generations. The history of our greatest struggle as a nation is documented here.May they rest in peace and may we who benefited from their efforts never forget the lessons or the men and women who fought to preserve what they so deeply felt. A united nation sprang from this struggle, let us do nothing to destroy what they fought so hard to preserve. It is our history that makes us who we are and will become. May we never destroy that history and in doing so be forced to repeat it. Denying and destroying things that remind us of our nations struggles blocks the pathway to understanding ourselves and our country. Ultimately that lack of mature vision blocks the path to learning to love ourselves and thereby love and understand our fellow citizens.
