Hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa is undeniably one of the most pleasurable activities I have been privileged to do. With such majestic mountains surrounding you as you trudge up and forward, there is little in life that still needs to be experienced. The views are breathtaking, the flora magnificent and the bird life prolific. Dotted among the tall grass and Silver Proteas are Mountain Cabbage Trees (Cussonia paniculata subsp. sinuata) and I love their shape and textured bark. The original image of this particular cabbage tree was taken just below the Amphitheatre which is situated in the Northern Drakensberg. The Amphitheatre is one of the geographical features of the Northern Drakensberg, South Africa, and is widely regarded as one of the most impressive cliff faces on earth.
