The Van Vleck House & Gardens became Joseph Van Vleck Sr and his family when they moved to Montclair from Brooklyn in 1868. In 1993 the heirs of Howard Van Vleck gifted the house to The Montclair Foundation. The house is a center for non-profit groups and is opened to the public to enjoy the garden spaces and welcome for classes, concerts, and special events.
