Disquiet came from some things in my own environment, things happening at the time from which I drew inspiration. The rusty wire cage originated in a brief gothic moment, which I envisioned in a storm of blues and greens and violets. Smoke, a watercolor cotton plant element, and some veiny watercolor backgrounds blend together under a rain storm and lightning strikes. This windy, smokey, cloudy scene intermingled with a spiky metal structure somehow suggests how vulnerable the most beautiful things are and that we must appreciate them while we can. There is always an inherent lack of calm even in the most peaceful tableau.
