Ozymandias

Inspiration

This is a combination of a couple themes. #1- It is based on the sonnet by Percy Bysshe Shelley. Ozymandias is the Greek name for the Egyptian pharaoh Ramesses II, and the poem describes coming upon the singular wreck of a colossal statue with the ironic inscription of “Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!” #2- There is a fantastical theory that the ancient Egyptians were descendants from, or perhaps merely beneficiaries of, an alien race from the Sirius system. My intention for this composite was to show an astronaut discovering the head of a huge Egyptian statue elsewhere in our solar system.
