Dream-like surrealism & the fluidity of boundaries.Look Closer

I am a mixed-media artist, living in Darwin. My work slants towards the whimsical, imaginal, and surreal. My images incorporate traditional art media, photography, vintage ephemera, and digital process. My art-making journey began a few years ago, when I lived in extremely remote and isolated communities in the Northern Territory, separated by hundreds of kilometers of dirt road, and frequently inaccessible during the monsoon season; my art supplies were delivered by mail plane, four times a month. It was during this time that I discovered digital art making, and its unlimited potential; as well as a wonderfully vibrant online art community, for which I am very grateful.
To create my images I use a Fujifilm digital camera, a scanner, and a variety of media; as well as Corel Painter, Photoshop, and Illustrator. I enjoy working with photographs to create collage elements and textures. My images combine paint, papers, photography, whimsical design elements, and magical-surrealist vision. I see collage as a form of story-telling, and visual poetry; and I love the unbounded creative potential of melding an old-fashioned craft with digital design process. For me, mixed-media collage expresses the joys of serendipity, appreciation, and heart-felt wonder.
