My artwork reflects a joyful sense of wonder and appreciation for the beauty of the natural world and nature’s unending creativity, its sublimeness and mystery. My collages are a combination of traditional art-making and digital process, incorporating a variety of mixed media and a multitude of textured layers, to create a sense of depth or surrealistic atmosphere. The focus of my photography is to create collage elements, such as clouds, water, glass, flowers, organic materials, cloth, lighting effects, and unusual surfaces. Inspiration for my work comes from my interest in poetry and surrealism, as well as from the coastal region of northern Australia. I live in Darwin and I love to watch the sea and the sky, and the ships and fishing boats that continuously go by. My website is Juliet Pierce Art, at Juliet-Pierce.com.
Luminous pastel sea shell. The shell appears transparent, with splashes of sea water and the beach beyond showing through the shell as though it is a window. Symbolic of the sound and motion of the ocean, and the treasures encountered along the shore.
Multi-colored mosaic where each tile serves as a diminutive view, or an aspect, of the ocean and seashore. Memories and feelings are evoked of sand, cloud, wave, sunlight, storm, and salt; and the endless moods of the sea and atmosphere.
Multi-colored mosaic. Like a stained-glass window, the sections are both opaque and transparent, with hints of gold and pearl. A bright, green rose peeks through the center of the mosaic, and draws the eye inward.
A butterfly, symbol of transformation and renewal, rests inside a glass square with hints of a deeper realm within and behind. It is surrounded by a vintage map, overlaid with a marble texture. The world "metamorphosis" is embossed in gold.
A multi-colored mosaic resembles a stained glass window, with both opaque and transparent sections. Hints of text and gold surround a brightly pink rose, that appears through the curving lines of the mosaic. This piece is sure to brighten any space.
A bright green butterfly is set, jewel-like, on a surface of mango-colored texture. A vintage gold frame and map texture surround it, and hints of an encaustic-like wax creates a dappled shadow effect.
Inspired by visits to cathedrals, with their stained glass windows and the mixed quality of light and shadow within the sanctuary. Spiral sea shells can symbolize Eternity and Creation, aspects also found in the Golden Ratio.
Inspired by the tremendous thunder and lightening storms that occur regularly off the coast of Darwin, Australia; and the sense of calm that emerges with the last rays of sunlight, as the storms move further off shore and over the Arafura Sea.
Inspired by wax, Encaustic painting. Numerous vintage elements appear embedded in layers of wax; with traces of text work. "Dwell in Wonder" is written on a piece of old paper, around an image of a tiny Steampunk drawing.
